Even in these dark days of pandemic, the light of Christmas continues to burn bright in Pearl River.
One of the most cherished yearly traditions of the Ancient Order of Hibernians is their annual Christmas party for young people in our community who have special needs or are battling challenges.
Unfortunately, COVID restrictions made the traditional Christmas party out of the question. However, the Hibernians joined by Buddy Ball, the Orangetown Mighty Midgets, Lourdes Kids of Rockland, the Lions, and the Orangetown Police and Fire Department, and many, many volunteers would not let a virus play Grinch stealing the joy of the season from these special individuals. They organized a drive-through Christmas celebration with decorations, characters in costume, music, and of course, Santa himself.
It was hard to say at the end of the day who was smiling more, the kids or the volunteers as the light and warmth of Christmas was rekindled in their hearts.
Thank you to all who volunteered and who kept the light and promise of Christmas burning.
