As we’ve heard through every media outlet, this is turning out to be a very different Christmas season, and that’s just as true for our organization and our young people and most vulnerable. One of our cherished Christmas traditions is our Christmas party for special needs children and young adults. While current Covid restrictions preclude our traditional party, we’ve come up with an alternative that will allow us to safely share the joy of the season and bring some of that Christmas cheer into their lives.
We will be doing a “drive by” Christmas event at the Orangetown Mighty Midgets (OMM) parking lot on Saturday, December 19th from 9:30 to 10:30. Our party attendees will show up by car and drive through a series of stations where we will have some of the elements of our Christmas party – Disney characters, music, Christmas decorations and of course Santa Claus! The party attendees will never leave their cars, thus, a safe environment for them, and our ‘performers’ will be outside and appropriately socially distanced.
We need people to help out with the one hour session, plus to help with set up and break down of the various displays. Assume, we’ll need volunteers for whatever portion of the morning (8am through noon), that they can give.
If you can share some of your time to make Christmas a bit brighter for these kids, please contact Dermot Moore. Thanks so much to Dermot and team for figuring out a creative way to make this work, and for connecting with those organizations whom we serve. We look forward to the success of this event (and we’re praying for good weather!).
