It is with deep regret that we inform you that our Brother, Denis Troy, passed away Friday evening. Denis’ three sons, Mike, Dan and Pat are also members. We ask that you remember Denis and his entire extended family in your prayers.
Eternal rest grant to him, O Lord,
And let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in Peace.
Amen.
Denis is such a huge presence in Orangetown that we will see a lot written and said about him in the coming days and weeks. Importantly to us as Hibernians, we can’t overstate how important he was to us as a local organization and as individuals. Denis was part of a group of members who shaped what the Pearl River AOH would become, fundraising for and building out the Hibernian House and dramatically increasing the membership of the Division. Denis led much of this effort, as Division Treasurer, Vice President and as its long-time President.
For that, he received many honors – he was a Hibernian of the Year, and he was the Grand Marshal of the Rockland County Parade. But he never rested on his laurels – he participated in so many of our activities throughout the years. For example, he could be found dishing out food at our senior luncheons up until the most recent one. As a group of us tried to wrap our heads around this loss on Saturday while on the AOH ski trip, we recognized that Denis was one of the early organizers of the ski trip, and he attended for many years.
We will be conducting a Hibernian Ritual at 6pm on Thursday at St. Aedan’s. If you can, please join us so we can give Denis a full-voiced goodbye. Please arrive by 5:45pm so that we might get organized, and if you have your own sash, please bring it, as we expect many members to attend.
Details on the services can be found on the Wyman-Fisher website at the following link (no obituary has been published yet, but we will forward that when available).
