SUMMARY:AOH Division 3 Annual Golf Outing in Memory of Joe Walsh
DESCRIPTION:The Ancient Order of Hibernians\, Division 3 of Pearl River\, New York annual charity golf outing will be held on Friday May 12\, 2017 at 12:30 P.M.\, registration begins at 10:30 A.M.\, at Blue Hill Golf Course in Pearl River\, New York. For all those who cannot make the golf day\, come join us for a social evening of dinner\, laughter\, and comradery at The Castle at Blue Hill at 5:00 P.M. that evening. \nAt this year’s event we will honor the memory our friend and fellow Hibernian\, Joe Walsh. While Joe passed away last year after a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer\, his legacy lives on through the numerous charitable organizations that he was instrumental in forming and funding\, including Project Children\, an organization that brought 25\,000 children to the U.S. from Northern Ireland for a four-week holiday. He and his family’s tireless work with this organization contributed to the long awaited peace accord in Northern Ireland in 1998. \nFollowing in the footsteps of Joe Walsh\, the goal for this golf outing is to raise funds to support the many charitable activities that Division 3 sponsors throughout the year. The gratitude of our college scholarship recipients\, the delight of the senior citizens at our holiday luncheons\, and the elation of the special needs children at our annual Christmas party are just a few examples the tremendous impact to the community made possible by your generous support. \nWe hope that you will help us make this event a success by sponsoring the golf outing or participating in the day’s activities. Please review the enclosed form which details various opportunities for participation. We thank you in advance for your consideration in contributing to this organization. Your support truly makes a difference in the lives of so many! \nSincerely\, \nSean Walsh \nGolf Outing Chairman \n  \n

SUMMARY:Talk by Mark Thompson of Relatives for Justice
DESCRIPTION: Mark Thompson\, a founding member and CEO of Relatives for Justice\, will be giving a talk at Hibernian House on January 12th at 7:00 PM.  Relatives for Justice is a support group formed in the mid-1990s in Dungannon\, Northern Ireland advocating for justice on behalf of the relatives of people bereaved\, injured or affected by conflict-related violence during “The Troubles”.  Despite commitments made in the Good Friday Agreement\, twenty years on justice for the victims of the legacy of the conflict in Northern Ireland continues to be denied and actively obstructed.\n \nMark is himself a victim of Northern Ireland’s legacy of violence.  On January 13\, 1990\, undercover British soldiers opened fire in a shoot-to-kill operation on the Falls Road  Belfast. Three men were killed\, among them Mark’s Brother Peter who was unarmed and shot at least 10 times. Eyewitnesses said they were shot without warning.  Members of the British Parliment\, local political and church leaders called for an independent investigation.  The Director of Public Prosecutions declined to pursue the case without reason. \n \nThe lack of justice for Peter Thompson and hundreds of similar of case lead Mark to form Relatives for Justice to bring justice to the victims of state collusion and closure to the living.  Recent decisions by the European Court of Justice have vindicated Relatives for Justice’s claims.  Efforts to continue to escape accountability and the jurisdiction of the E.U. courts are a significant part of the British Government’s decision to pursue Brexit.\n \nPlease join us on January 12th to here first hand the true story of Relative’s for Justice continuing struggles to shed the light of truth into the dark corners of collusion in Northern Ireland.  There will be a “meet & greet” at 7:00 pm\, followed by Mark’s talk at 8:00 pm and concluding with refreshments at 9:00 including a cash bar.\n

The families of the victims—who were murdered while watching the World Cup in their local pub—were promised justice\, but 20 years later they still didn’t know who killed their loved ones. Gibney uncovers a web of secrecy\, lies\, and corruption that so often results when the powerful insist they are acting for the greater good. \nBIOGRAPHIES \n  \nEmma Rogan MLA\nLife long campaigner for Loughinisland Justice Group. Emma was 8 years old when her father Adrian was murdered at the Heights Bar Loughinisland\, and was 18 when the families gathered to campaign for Truth and Justice on the 10th Anniversary of the atrocity. Emma is now 30 years old and was co-opted in June 2017 as the MLA for South Down\, representing Sinn Féin. \n  \nClare Rogan\nEmma’s mother and widow of Adrian. Clare has campaigned tirelessly in respect of her husbands murder\, always believing that the State had covered up terrible crimes to prioritise their intelligence agenda. Clare has made presentations to Parliaments in Stormont\, Dáil Éireann\, Westminster\, Brussels\, Strasbourg and Washington DC and is a predominant narrator in the film No Stone Unturned. \n  \nNiall Murphy\nNiall is a partner at KRW Law LLP\, a leading human rights practice\, based in Belfast. The practice is instructed by a significant number of clients engaged in legacy litigation relating to conflict related deaths and injuries\, appearing for those bereaved as a result of atrocities such as Loughinisland\, Loughgall\, Claudy\, Clonoe\, Kingsmill\, the Dublin-Monaghan and McGurks Bar Bombings\, the Glenanne Gang series of killings\, Ormeau Road Bookmakers\, the 1974 Birmingham Pub Bombing amongst others. Niall is instructed on behalf of several families to act at the reopening of the ‘John Stalker / Shoot to Kill’ Inquests\, relating to the murders of 6 unarmed men in 1982 by the RUC.\nNiall is a Director of Belfast based NGO\, Relatives for Justice and has made representations at the European Parliament in Brussels\, to the EU Human Rights Commissioner in Strasbourg and also to the UN Human Rights Committee in Geneva as well as having presented lectures to Universities in Washington\, Pittsburgh\, Jersey City\, Fordham University New York and Harvard\, Massachusetts .\nNiall is a director of Brassneck Theatre Company\, a Panel Member of the Human Rights Fund\, an Honorary Chair of the Belfast International Homecoming and also sits on the Antrim GAA Human Resources Board. He and his family’s tireless work with this organization contributed to the long awaited peace accord in Northern Ireland in 1998. \nFollowing in the footsteps of Joe Walsh\, the goal for this golf outing is to raise funds to support the many charitable activities that the AOH\, Div. 3 sponsors throughout the year. The gratitude of our college scholarship recipients\, the enjoyment of the senior citizens at our holiday luncheons\, and the happiness on the faces of the kids at our Christmas party for children with special needs are just a few examples of the priceless results made possible by your generous support.\nWe hope that you will help us make this event a success by sponsoring the event or participating in the day’s activities. Please review the enclosed form which details various opportunities for participation. We thank you in advance for your consideration in contributing to this organization.
